Rockland Place Adopts Aging Boxer, Giving Him the Gift of a Home
Rockland Place, a Watermark Retirement Community, has adopted 8-year-old boxer Rusty from Faithful Friends Animal Society.
Wilmington, Del. – Rockland Place, a Watermark Retirement Community, has adopted 8-year-old boxer Rusty from Faithful Friends Animal Society. Rockland Place gave Rusty a ‘home for the holidays’ after welcoming him into the community for a series of successful visits.
“We are thrilled to give Rusty the gift of a home, and at the same time, give the animal lovers among our residents the gift of a loving companion,” said Rockland Place Executive Director Brenda Negron. “Calm and loving, Rusty has the perfect demeanor for our community, and he is the perfect size for all residents to enjoy because he is the right height to pet while standing or sitting in a chair or wheelchair.”
Negron first met Rusty while dropping off donated supplies to Faithful Friends, the shelter from which she adopted her own ‘furry friend.’ Rusty was a stray who had not been claimed, but clearly had an affinity for being around people. He was most at ease in the company of others. Negron and Faithful Friends Executive Director Jane Pierantozzi decided to see if he would fit in at Rockland Place. The residents quickly became attached to Rusty, and Rusty became equally attached to them.
“When we dropped Rusty back at the shelter after one of his visits to Rockland Place, he tried to follow us back out the door,” said Negron. “We knew then and there that it was time to bring him home. We are confident that we can help him thrive as he ages, and he’ll do the same for our residents who wish to take him on walks, brush his furry coat, engage him in play or simply offer some love and a healthy treat or two.”
“Rusty has been a gift to us at Faithful Friends, and now he is a gift to all the residents at Rockland Place who can benefit from his love,” said Pierantozzi. “We encourage everyone looking for an animal to adopt, don’t shop, to fill your home with even more warmth, love and happiness this holiday season.”
