FH: 2017 Field Hockey schedule released

Slate features eight home games

NEWBERRY – Newberry’s 18-game field hockey schedule for the 2017 season has been finalized and features eight contests inside Setzler Field.
“We no doubt have a challenging schedule ahead of us this season," said first-year head coach Hannah Dave. "We have some great nonconference match ups against Mansfield University, as well as a perennial power in Bloomsburg University.
“We only have two weekend trips in this year’s regular season play which will be great for our student-athletes," she continued. "We are also excited that Converse College has added field hockey this year, giving us more competition in the South.”
The Wolves play six of their first nine contests at home, including a Friday night opener vs. Seton Hill on Sept. 1 and Eastern College Athletic Conference matchups with Mercy, Bellarmine, and 2016 ECAC champion Lindenwood. The October slate is heavy on road games but features a critical late-season home conference games vs. Belmont Abbey and Limestone, the latter of which falls during Newberry's Homecoming weekend and will be designated as Senior Day.
Newberry also will square off with a pair of nonconference opponents at neutral sites, facing Bloomsburg on the campus of Queens University in Charlotte on Sept. 3 and meeting Mansfield at Kutztown University on Oct. 8.
Bloomsburg holds a special place in Newberry field hockey history. In the program's third year in 2015, Newberry traveled to Pennsylvania and stunned the fifth-ranked Huskies 2-0. The win was Newberry's first-ever shutout and its first win over a nationally-ranked opponent.
This year's slate provides an opportunity for Wolves fans to attend a pair of games at Setzler Field on Sept. 30, with the field hockey team taking on ECAC opponent Bellarmine at 11:00 a.m. before a 4:00 p.m. football kickoff against UNC Pembroke.
The 2017 ECAC Field Hockey Tournament will be played at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, just outside St. Louis, Nov. 3 and 5.
