SUBJECT: Ashley Dingman Earns Medalist Honors, Blue Hen Women’s Golfers Finish Second at Delaware Invitational

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – UD junior Ashley Dingman earned medalist honors while the Blue Hen women’s golf team finished in second place as they closed out the fall 2017 season this weekend at the Delaware Invitational.

Dingman carded a four under par 68 during her final round on the par 72, 6,180-yard course at Rehoboth Beach Country Club, posting a two-shot victory with a two under par 73-73-68-214. Dingman, who earned her first career individual title, fired the second lowest 54-hole score in Blue Hen history. Her final round 68 also is tied for the second lowest round in UD history.

Beginning on the sixth hole, Dingman quickly moved to three under on the round with birdies on the eighth, ninth and 11th holes. She was two over for the day through the second hole, before closing with a birdie on three, a par on four and a birdie on five.

Dingman helped the Blue Hens card a 291 team score on Sunday, as Delaware moved up into a second place finish out of nine squads. No. 42 Penn State captured the team crown with an 889 total while the Blue Hens, who fired rounds of 308 and 300 on Saturday, placed second with an 889 score.

“I am very proud of the girls and their effort today,” said Delaware head coach Patty Post. “They played tough. I am really proud of Ashley on her first collegiate win. It was well deserved, and she played great all weekend!”

Thitaree Sakulbunpanich finished seventh at the invitational with a six over par 76-72-74-222 during her UD debut, while Valentina Mueller tied for 12th place with a 12 over par 78-76-74-228.

Kylie Greulich carded an 18 over par 76-80-78-234 to tie for 26th place, while Ariane Klotz shot a 19 over par 81-79-75-235 to tie for 29th place.

Josefina Fernandez-Davila tied for 50th place with a 33 over par 84-83-82-249, Aashaka Desai finished 54th with a 41 over par 87-83-87-257, and Siena Ferrick placed 59th with a 74 over par 96-97-97-290.

The tournament capped a successful fall season for the Blue Hens, who finished among the top three teams in four of their five invitationals.
