Applications are open for the Summer 2021 session through May 9, 2021
Wilmington-based developer The Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG) is proud to announce BPG U, a 3-week paid internship program designed to introduce local high school students to all aspects of real estate development from acquisitions & finance to leasing & marketing to development & operations. With a focus on professional development, the goal of the internship program is to expose students to a variety of potential careers and connect them with pathways for future employment.
The program will begin June 21, 2021 and run through July 13, 2021. The internship with take place in-person at BPG’s headquarters in Downtown Wilmington, DE. (DART transportation passes will be provided upon request.) Eight students will be selected to participate following an interview process. Students must be a rising junior or senior at a Delaware high school to be eligible. No prior experience is required. Applications are currently being accepted through 11:59 PM on May 9, 2021.
During the internship, students will work together to complete a mock development project from start to finish, interacting with each department at BPG along the way. Through this rotational model, interns will learn the various ways teams work together to bring a project to fruition. Prior to “graduating,” the students will present their final development plan to BPG leadership.
BPG U will also introduce students to the corporate environment and provide them with the soft-skills necessary to enter this type of workplace. Inspiring interest in future career paths, each student will leave with a portfolio of work upon completion of the internship.
With assistance from Goodwill of Delaware, Delaware Pathways, and Reach Riverside, BPG U will source talent from a diverse pool of high school applicants, especially those who would benefit from a college preparatory experience. This associate-led youth development initiative was conceived in an effort to address some of the inequalities that exist in our community following to the death of George Floyd and the protests that erupted around the globe last summer.
“As leaders in our community, we want to use our platform and resources as a positive force for change in Wilmington,” said De’Joun Lee, BPG U Program Coordinator. “While developing the program, we searched for other local companies with similar internship opportunities, but could not find anything comparable to what we plan to achieve. In the future, we hope BPG U will serve as a model for neighboring companies to adopt in an effort to express their commitment to the youth of our community.”
