WASHINGTON, DC — The Great American State Fair will be temporarily closed until 5 p.m. Friday, due to the heat, officials said in a social media post on X.
Fair organizers said that the decision was made in coordination with public safety officials.
"The safety and well-being of our guests, volunteers, performers, vendors, and staff is our highest priority," the post read.
"Conditions are expected to improve later this afternoon, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back at 5 p.m., as preparations continue for this evening’s festivities."
The capital's temperature hit 100 degrees with a 111-degree heat index at 2 p.m., CNN reported.
The U.S. Capitol Fourth concert on Capitol Hill at 7 p.m. will go on, with the gates opening at 7 p.m. and the concert starting at 8 p.m., the outlet reported.
Capitol police strongly urged attendees to “bring an ample supply of water to stay hydrated," according to the outlet.
