"Conditions are expected to improve later this afternoon, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back at 5 p.m., as preparations continue for this evening’s festivities."

The capital's temperature hit 100 degrees with a 111-degree heat index at 2 p.m., CNN reported.

The U.S. Capitol Fourth concert on Capitol Hill at 7 p.m. will go on, with the gates opening at 7 p.m. and the concert starting at 8 p.m., the outlet reported.

Capitol police strongly urged attendees to “bring an ample supply of water to stay hydrated," according to the outlet.
