INVERNESS, FL — Days after he was severely injured in an explosion at Storm Distillery in downtown Inverness, owner David Mohr died from his injuries, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser for his family.
On Friday, Mohr “suffered devastating injuries” in the incident at “his beloved” distillery, the fundraiser’s description said
He was airlifted to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he remained in critical condition until his death on Monday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved David Mohr, owner of Storm Distillery. As many of you know, David was involved in a recent accident, and despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he has peacefully passed away,” the Mohr family wrote in a post to the distillery’s Facebook page. “We are deeply moved by the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community over the last few days. Your kindness has been a source of strength for our family.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe has raised more than $44,000 for the family of a $50,000 goal.
“This fundraiser is being organized to help ease the overwhelming financial burden on the family as they face a long and challenging road ahead of them while still processing the tragic loss of their loved one,” the fundraiser description said.
The funds raised will be used to pay for medical-related expenses, household and daily living expenses, and transportation and family support needs, as well as to make up for any income loss because of the damage to the distillery.
The brewery will be closed until further notice from fire damage caused by the explosion, the family said in a social media post.
“David and Shannon have made a lasting impact on our beautiful town of Inverness with Storm Distillery. With an easy and welcoming atmosphere, when you walk through the doors of Storm, you are not just a customer, you are family,” the GoFundMe page said. “Always ready for a good conversation, David's passion for distilling and creating edgy concoctions shined bright and brought him true joy to see the community enjoy them. From themed drinks to immersive events and a variety of nightly entertainment, David and Shannon made sure everyone had a wonderful and memorable time.”
Established in 2021, the distillery produces whiskey, vodka, rum and brandy.
