DESTIN, FL — Families looking for a last-minute beach getaway before school starts should check out Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, among a dozen that Condé Nast Traveler said can't be beat.
The destinations all offer family-friendly access to sand and water without the cost and complications of an overseas trip. They differ in setting, accommodations and pace, ranging from calm ocean beaches and full-service resorts to lakeside campgrounds and more luxurious coastal retreats.
"Known as the 'World's Luckiest Fishing Village,' Destin sits on the white sand beaches of northwest Florida overlooking the vivid green waters of the Gulf of Mexico," according to Condé Nast Traveler.
The publication lauds the beachfront resort the Henderson, which offers "plenty of ways to test that moniker—hop on a nearby charter boat, or cast off from the shores at the adjacent Henderson Beach State Park (guests of the resort get complimentary day passes)."
Condé Nast Traveler continued, "Other adventures include exploring the coastline on paddleboards from the resort's private beach, or biking to the beachfront towns of South Walton on the 18-mile Timpoochee Trail. The lazy river, connected to the family pool, makes for a relaxing post-adventure wind-down."
