Lashundra Fair is accused of murdering 85-year-old Carlton Fair in his home.

MIAMI, FL — Born more than half a century apart, Lashundra Fair shared the same birthday with 85-year-old Carlton Fair in addition to the same last name.

"They're born on 9-20 and both last names are Fair — no relation," Miami-Dade police Detective Marjorie Eloi acknowledged to Patch early Friday morning.

While it was unclear what the exact relationship between the two was, Lashundra Fair would be the last person that would ever see Carlton Fair alive.

Police said the elder Fair welcomed the 31-year-old into his home on Feb. 19 and on Thursday, police said the woman confessed to killing him.

Lashundra Fair is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Carlton Fair.

She told police that sometime after 7 p.m. on that Sunday she shot Carlton Fair in the stomach and left him to die outside his home in the 1800 block of NW 74 Street, according to arrest documents.

First responders found the elderly victim's body around 7 a.m. the next morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

"Further investigation revealed that while visiting the victim’s residence, Lashundra Fair shot and killed him," Eloi explained. "She then fled the residence and discarded the firearm in a neighboring yard."

Evidence at the scene linked her to the crime.

She was taken into custody by Miami-Dade police on Thursday and brought to the Homicide Bureau for questioning. It was there that police say she confessed.
