'Cinco DUI Mayo' Checkpoint Planned
Police will be stopping vehicles from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday
MIAMI GARDENS, FL — If your idea of Cinco de Mayo involves copious amounts of alcohol, you may bee doing the Mexican Hat Dance across a straight line on Friday night when you get pulled over by Miami-Dade police at their "Cinco DUI Mayo" Checkpoint. Detective Robin Pinkard of the Miami-Dade Police Department told Patch that officers will focus on the area of 6193 NW 183 St. Police will be manning the checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The multi-agency checkpoint will be operated by the Miami-Dade Police Department's Special Patrol Bureau Motorcycle Unit under a Florida Department of Transportation grant initiative. (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Aventura Patch.)
Unlike rolling saturation patrols which move around a particular area, DUI checkpoints operate in a fixed location for a set number of hours. Vehicles will be pulled over at the checkpoint based on a formula that might be as simple as selecting 15 consecutive vehicles after each 10-minute period.
