Florida's 2017 Sales Tax Holiday Weekend Runs From Friday Through Sunday
The annual event provides tax-free shopping on traditional school supplies and clothing though you don't have to be a student to save.
AVENTURA, FL — Everybody out of the pool and into the stores. Florida’s 2017 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday began at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and runs through 12:59 p.m. this Sunday. The annual event provides tax-free shopping on traditional school supplies and clothing though you don't have to be a student to reap the savings. This year’s holiday also brings some tax-free savings on computers and accessories that cost $750 or less, including tablets.

You can get this deal at any mall or retail establishment in Florida except at entertainment complexes, theme parks, hotels or airports. Some smaller businesses may also choose to opt out so it's best to check at the store before you buy. The deal is on top of any other coupons or specials stores may be offering. Qualifying Purchases

The following items qualify for the tax break:
- Clothing, shoes and some accessories that cost $60 or less per item
- School supplies that sell for $15 or less per item, such as paper, pencils, pens, notebooks
- Personal computers and some computer-related accessories with price tags of $750 or under. These items must be purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.
What Doesn’t Qualify
Tax breaks will not apply on the following items:
- Any clothing item that costs more than $60
- School supplies that cost more than $15
- Books that are not otherwise exempt
- Personal computers that cost more than $750 or those that are intended for commercial use, mobile phones or video game consoles
- Rental or leases on any items that would be eligible if purchased outright
- Repairs or alterations to eligible items
Tax breaks will not be given on eligible items that are purchased at entertainment complexes, theme parks, public lodging establishments or airports.
