Fort Lauderdale Air Show: Canadian Air Force Delights

Check out Patch's exclusive photo gallery from the Fort Lauderdale Air Show.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Mike Wiskus and his Lucas Oil Pitts Super Stinker opened the Fort Lauderdale Air Show on Saturday with thundering aerial dives, smoke, rolls and climbs. But the Royal Canadian Air Force closed it with jaw-dropping formations that included nine-jet maneuvers where pilots came within three or four feet of one another at speeds that reached 800 miles per hour. In between, the crowds were wowed by chest-pumping appearances by the U.S. military's F-16 Viper, P-51 Mustang and F-18 Super Hornet.

The event was sponsored by Ford.

The U.S. Army was represented by Para-Commandos, who parachuted into the event while the U.S. Coast Guard demonstrated its search and rescue capabilities and the Geico Sky Typers went old school with vintage World War II aircraft.
