Rolex Thieves Target Aventura Penney's

Thieves made off with $200,000 worth of Rolex watches over a four-month period.

AVENTURA, FL — Police are looking for a group of thieves with expensive taste. They made off with $200,000 worth of Rolex watches over a four-month period. The thefts occurred at a J.C. Penney store in Aventura Mall.

"Between January 2017 and May 2017, the individuals ... were captured on CCTV footage entering the J.C. Penney store at the Aventura Mall," according to Sgt. Chris Goranitis of the Aventura Police Department. (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Aventura Patch.)

Aventura police released surveillance images of the thieves. Goranitis said they charged the merchandise on a fraudulently obtained credit card.

"These individuals used a stolen identity of an unsuspecting person to open up a J.C. Penney charge account," he explained. "The individuals then purchased Rolex watches and exited the store."

He added that the thieves purchased more than $200,000 worth of watches from the store.

"Anyone with information on these individuals is urged to contact the Aventura Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers," he said.
