Traffic Snarled for 6 Hours on I-95

Fort Lauderdale man was killed when he was thrown from his scooter.

AVENTURA, FL — Traffic was snarled for more than six hours heading out of the Miami area along busy I-95 on Friday following a fatal accident in which a man was thrown from a scooter and then hit by a truck and car, police said.

The accident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. but was not cleared until 10:30 a.m. as the Florida Highway Patrol investigation covered an area equal to the length of a football field on one of the busiest highways in the Miami area.

The driver of the scooter was identified as 47-year-old Willie Hill of Fort Lauderdale, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Florida Highway Patrol said that the scooter was struck by a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze operated by 24-year-old Fred Alcius of Lauderhill.

The driver of the truck that struck Hill was identified as 55-year-old William Garcia of Interlachen, Florida. Sixty-two-year old Willian Hena0 of Aventura also struck Hill with his 2001 Volvo as the man lay along I-95.

Hill was driving his scooter in the outside lane of the highway when he was struck from behind by the Chevrolet Cruze. All of the vehicles were in the northbound lanes of I-95.

Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant Mark G. Wysocky told Patch that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
