Woman Killed Crossing I-95

47-year-old Marilin Yero was thrown 20 feet when she was struck by a Mercedes.

MIAMI, FL — A 47-year-old woman was killed as she attempted to cross I-95 early Sunday morning. Marilin Yero was thrown 20 feet into the air after she was hit by a Mercedes, according to police. The accident occurred near State Road 826.

Lt. Yosdany Veloz of the Florida Highway Patrol told Patch that the E350 was traveling north on I-95 in the left lane at the time of the accident. "Decedent was a pedestrian on I-95 attempting to cross the northbound lanes," said Veloz. "She ran from east to west." The left front of the vehicle struck the left side of the Yero.

"She then went airborne and struck the flyover concrete wall approximately 20 feet up in the air and came to final rest on the grass shoulder," Veloz said.

Police said that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the accident and the weather was clear at the time.

The driver was identified as 44-year-0ld Sidney Evans. He was not charged.
