The brother of the alleged shooter told a news crew that his younger sibling had a number of arguments with his neighbor.

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL — A 56-year-old man shot his 61-year-old neighbor and then turned the gun on himself on Thursday in what police are describing as an apparent murder suicide. The incident occurred at 8:16 a.m. in building two of the Skylake Gardens apartment complex, 1663 North Miami Gardens Drive. The neighbor was taken to Aventura Hospital & Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries.
Police identified the gunman as Manuel Navarro, who lived beneath his victim on the first floor of the apartment building. His victim was identified as Yasmina Jamal.
Miguel Navarro, who identified himself as the brother of the alleged shooter, told Local 10 News that his younger sibling had lived in the apartment complex for more than 20 years and often argued with his neighbor over noise and other issues. Detective Robin Pinkard of the Miami-Dade Police Department told Patch that Manuel Navarro confronted his neighbor as she got out of her vehicle.
"According to investigators, the victim, Yasmina Jamal, was exiting her vehicle when she was approached by the subject, Manuel Navarro," Pinkard explained. "The subject produced a firearm and opened fire, striking Ms. Jamal. He then went to her apartment, where she lived with her two brothers, and fired into the residence."
Pinkard said that Navarro left Jamal's second-floor apartment and went back to his apartment.
"Navarro then retreated to his own apartment where he was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," Pinkard said.
She added that the initial 9-1-1 call to police indicated that bullets had struck someone's window. No one else was injured in the attack.
