73-Year-Old Man Charged With Assaulting Woman In Her 80s

SUN CITY CENTER, FL -- A 73-year-old man has been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault of an elderly victim after DNA results came in for an incident in January.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Sun City Center on Jan. 21 for a report of a man entering an elderly woman's home and fondling and kissing her while she slept in her bedroom.

The victims, who is in her 80s, said the man covered her face with a towel during the incident.

Robert Opletal, who is known to the victim, was interviewed and denied going into the victim's home that night. He provided a cheek swab that was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for DNA analysis.

The results came back this week and showed a match between Opletal's saliva and evidence found on the victim.

Opletal was arrested Friday morning.
