HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — It turns out that razor blades in Halloween candy aren't an urban legend, after all.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said an 8-year-old girl was injured when she bit into a candy bar she'd received while trick-or-treating and bit down on an Exacto blade hidden inside.
According to the sheriff's office, on Friday deputies received a call from the mother of the girl who lives in the Panther Trace community in Riverview.

"It is despicable that someone would tamper with a children's Halloween candy for their own cruel enjoyment," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "As we continue to investigate this incident, we are reminding all parents of the importance of checking every piece of candy your child received while trick-or-treating before letting them eat it. There is no such thing as being too cautious when it comes to the safety of our children."
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813-247-8200.
