Former Globetrotters Michael Douglas, Shorty Coleman to Visit Beef O' Brady's

The two former Harlem Globetrotters players will meet with fans from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Valrico restaurant, 4330 Bell Shoals Rd.

Residents will have a chance to meet and greet former Harlem Globetrottes legends Larry "Shorty" Coleman and Michael Douglas Tuesday, June 19, when the basketball duo stops into the 4330 Bell Shoals Rd., from 7 to 8 p.m.

The basketball stars are in town to participate in the Harlem Legends Shoot for the Stars Basketball Camp taking place all this week at First Baptist Church of Brandon, 216 N. Parsons Ave., Brandon, and the Bibles and Basketball Camp at Immanuel Lutheran School, 2913 John Moore Rd., Brandon.

In addition to making public appearances around town including at You Say When Yogurt, 825 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, on Monday, the legends will play in a charity basketball game against the Hillsborough County All-Stars Friday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran School gymnasium. Also making an appearance will be world’s funniest ref, Jimmy Bolden. Residents can purchase tickets and designate a local charity, and 20 percent of the ticket sales will go to that charity.

The Harlem Legends were founded by Douglas and are a part of the Michael Douglas Youth Foundation. The Legends consist of various professional players including former Harlem Globetrotters, National Basketball Association (NBA) and Continental Basketball Association (CBA) players.

The Michael Douglas Youth Foundation is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing positive messages and activities for people of all ages. The foundation also uses the Legends for speaking engagements, festival appearances, youth basketball camps and clinics. In addition, the Harlem Legends strive to bring communities together through assisting organizations in their fundraising efforts. The celebrity games and activities are fun, positive and family oriented, according to the Harlem Legends website.
