Bloomingdale High Student Killed in Crash

A 16-year-old Bloomingale High School student is dead following a Jan. 2 traffic accident.

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office media release, Zachary McCarthy of Valrico was traveling westbound near the intersection of Natures Way and Golf Meadow boulevards last night around 9:25 when he lost control of his 2000 Pontiac Grand Am for "an unknown reason." The car then spun out and its driver’s side door of the car struck a tree.

McCarthy was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he later died, the release said. McCarthy’s passenger, Michaela Faessler, 15, was not injured.
