Back Pain Moving Furniture?

Have you ever moved furniture only to discover low back pain later on in the day?

Moving furniture in your home can be a very stressful endeavor for your low back. Occasionally, you may notice some back discomfort during the activity which becomes worse as the day wears on. Some people will wake up the next day feeling as though they "were run over by a Mac truck".

Below you will find some easy tips to decrease the amount of stress on your low back while moving furniture-

-Keep you elbows in! The farther you reach and extend your elbows away from your body, the more stress is placed on your low back and its supporting muscles.

-Get help! Try not to attempt moving heavy furniture by yourself. By getting some help you will be better able to use proper ergonomics.

-Sliders! Especially for those of us with tile and hardwood. It may be worth picking up some of the "sliders" that go under the legs of heavy furniture and help us glide it easier.

-Ice! Ice is a great natural anti-inflammatory which can be used on your low back (30 minutes at a time) to decrease pain if you have over done it.

Most of all, take your time and be sure to contact your trusted health provider if you experience low back pain which is severe or un-resolving.
