Just a little fender bender?

Automobile accidents; even at just a few miles per hour can cause your body to sustain injuries. Find out how and why.

Have you or someone you know ever been involved in a minor car wreck? Did you feel alright at the scene of the accident, only to have a sore neck/back the next day?

Studies have shown that accidents which occur at speeds of even a few miles per hour can cause damage to the sensitive tissues of your spine. If these tissues are not treated appropriately they will heal by forming scar tissue, which is weaker and less elastic than your regular ligaments. Years later, these previously damaged tissues can also make the onset of arthritis and degeneration more likely.

While this scenario is not pleasant the good news is that by receiving a proper exam and treatment (if necessary), your body has an uncanny ability to heal. By using the right treatment, your body can minimize the amount of scar tissue which is left behind by the accident.

The bottom line is that pain is your body’s way of saying something is wrong. If you experience discomfort or pain following an accident (even up to a few weeks later); you should contact a doctor for a proper exam to determine the nature of your injury.

If you are fortunate enough to never be in a car accident, then pass this information on to someone who has.
