Caregiver Charged With Abuse, Murder In Child’s Death: Police

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested a 23-year-old man who is accused of abuse in the death of child he had in his care.

BLOOMINGDALE-RIVERVIEW — A 23-year-old man was recently arrested in connection with the death of a Riverview child last month, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release said.

David Vasquez Malave faces multiple charges for his involvement in a child's death, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Police said on July at 9:15 a.m, police received a 9-1-1 call in reference to an unresponsive child in Riverview.

The child suffered lacerations and had bruising on their body, investigators said.

The victim was taken to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the next day died of the injuries.

The Medical Examiner's Office said the death was attributed to homicide.

"No child should ever have to suffer as this young victim did," said Sheriff Chad Chronister in a news release. "This should never happen. It's an unthinkable tragedy. I am absolutely horrified with the actions by this suspect, and he will be charged to the fullest extent of the law."

Malave faces charges of aggravated child abuse and murder in the first degree while engaged in aggravated child abuse.

He is in the Falkenburg Road Jail without bond.

The victim's identity or relationship with Malave will not be released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office due to Marsy's Law.
