Deputy Stable After Gibsonton Drive Crash
The crash closed lanes in both directions for several hours Tuesday.
A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy seriously injured in a Tuesday afternoon crash on Gibsonton Drive is recovering at Tampa General Hospital.
According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy Tim Berg, 37, was in stable condition Tuesday night with injuries that are described as not life threatening. Berg suffered “several lacerations in the crash and a possible broken ankle,” an email from the sheriff’s office stated.
Berg is a 9-year-veteran of the sheriff’s office motor unit. The sheriff’s office has yet to release details about the accident, but several media outlets have reported Berg was stopped at a red light when he was hit from behind by a truck. Berg became trapped under the vehicle, which reportedly dragged him for about 150 feet.
