Off-Duty Detention Deputy Charged With DUI On Bloomingdale Avenue
An off-duty detention deputy has been charged with driving under the influence after being pulled over on Bloomingdale Avenue.

RIVERVIEW, FL — An off-duty detention deputy has been charged with driving under the influence after Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies pulled him over on Bloomingdale Avenue Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2:05 a.m.
According to the sheriff's office, Deputy Leighton Ricketts, who has been employed with sheriff's office since December 2015, was pulled over in a traffic stop at Bloomingdale Avenue and Watson Road. Ricketts was the only occupant and was driving his own vehicle at the time.
Although Ricketts did not submit to a breath sample at the scene, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The sheriff’s office has begun an internal affairs investigation. Ricketts will be placed on unpaid administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

“As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard of conduct, both on and off duty, and our sheriff’s office employees, both civilian and sworn, work every day to maintain that level of integrity,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I hope this unfortunate, isolated incident serves as a reminder to all of our residents not to fall into irresponsible holiday behavior. I encourage anyone planning to go out drinking or celebrating the holidays to please plan ahead by choosing a designated driver or calling for a ride.”
