Hillsborough County will host a Parenting Class for Divorce Oct. 12, 26, Nov. 9, 30 and Dec. 7 at the Hillsborough County Extension Service, 5339 CR 579 in Seffner.
Hillsborough County Extension is offering classes for those who are going through a divorce and have children. The four-hour course is required by the State of Florida when a child is involved in the divorce or custody process, and includes:
- Shared parenting and permanency of the parental role
- Child development stages and impacts of a divorce on children
- Communicating with your children
- Communicating with the other parent
- Child abuse /neglect and spouse abuse
- Legal concepts and community resources
- Families in transition
- Helping your children understand and cope with divorce
Couples may only attend the same session with special permission. The cost of the class is $25 and includes a workbook. A sliding fee scale is available. Children are not permitted in the class. You must bring a picture identification to class, such as a driver’s license.
