Yin yoga brings our attention to the deep connective tissues of the hips, pelvis and lower spine through a series of positions practiced on the floor and held from three to five minutes. As a complement to the more dynamic (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize the contracting of muscles, Yin Yoga establishes a safe and controlled environment for the muscles to relax, allowing the connective tissue to be gently lengthened and strengthened. Yin Yoga also helps develop a mindful meditation practice and encourages the flow of energy through the hip areas.
