This past Saturday, bargain hunters converged on Fishhawk Ranch for treasures at the semi-annual community garage sale.
Saturday morning was a bright and cheery one as visitors and residents of Fishhawk Community came out for the semi-annual community garage sale. The garage sale attracts visitors from across Hillsborough County looking for bargains, clothes, furniture, kids toys and much more.
The spring garage sale took place on Saturday, April 9 from 8 a.m. to noon with cars parked alongside just about every community street in Fishhawk.
"It is gridlock in the community from about 7 a.m. until after noon," said Fishhawk resident Kelley Schrott. "If you have to go anywhere that day, make sure you leave early."

Residents look forward to this time of year when they get to clean out their kids' closets, old toys, clear out furniture not being used, selling candies and sodas, and even motorcycles. Most residents plan for the semi-annual event in advance using their garages to store items they will sell at the event.
For spring's garage sale, residents were selling cold water and tasty treats to shoppers, in addition to having their items for sale. Just walking along the streets of the neighborhoods, you could hear the enthusiasm in the sellers voices saying, "Hello," and "Would you like something to drink?"

Valrico resident Jenny Presnell looks forward to the event.
"I have a system down now," Presnell said. "I walk quickly while looking and ask how much for a specific item. If the price is right or near right, I stop and talk more. Otherwise, I move on to the next house. You have to be quick or you can miss some good deals."
Even the gated subdivisions of Fishhawk are opened to the public for this event. Nearly 500 homes within the Fishhawk community participated in the spring event.
Patrons were driving the streets with large SU's, minivans and trucks looking to take home their next treasure. While visiting with one homeowner, 10 different shoppers came by looking to purchase a television.
For area residents who missed out on spring's garage sale, don't worry too much. There will be another yard sale today and Saturday starting at 8 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 5049 Bell Shoals Road.
The next Fishhawk community yard sale will be in the fall, typically in October.
