Newsome High Grad Thinks He Can Dance; Watch Tonight to Find Out

Ricky Jaime is wowing audiences on the Fox TV show, 'So You Think You Can Dance?'

All those dancing lessons as a kid are now paying off for 2010 graduate and professional dancer Ricky Jaime of Riverview.

For the past several weeks, the 19-year-old has been wowing audiences every Wednesday and Thursday night at 8 p.m. with his dance performances on the Fox (Channel 13) television show, So You Think You Can Dance?

"And thank God he just moved forward again this week," said his mother, Doris Davila-Jaime, agent/owner of Carrera Insurance of Tampa, located in Riverview. "We're very proud of him. But we need the community's help. The way the show works is, after Wednesday night's program, the lines are open for people to vote for two hours. It would mean so much if everyone could help this local student follow his dream and vote for him every Wednesday night after the show."

Jaime has more than 10 years of dance experience and has been featured in a number of trade publications and on television shows.

"But the most exciting so far is making the TOP 20 on So You Think You Can Dance?" he said. "This has been a long dream of mine and it is finally here. I am proud of what I have achieved thus far. My passion for what I do continues to grow each and every day. I love to break new ground with each new project I embark upon."

The Miami-born Jaime has been dancing since age 10.

Since January, he has worked for Centerstage Dance Academy in Tampa, instructing students at all levels.

While at Newsome, he was a cheerleader and a member of the Cheering Academy in Tampa.

"Eventually, I would like to be a member of a professional ballet company in California, New York or Europe," he said.

He is trained in hip-hop, contemporary, jazz, modern dance and ballet.

"Now I am starting to focus most on ballet since one of my new goals and dreams is to dance for a ballet company," he said.
