Gibbs High School Student Arrested After Social Media Threat

St. Petersburg Police arrested a 15-year-old girl for posting a threat on social media.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- St. Petersburg Police arrested a 15-year-old girl for posting a threat on social media.

Police received a tip about the post late Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13, and worked quickly to identify her and investigate.

The girl is a ninth-grader at Gibbs High School. In her Facebook post, she said she was going to take a gun to school.

Police charged her with a second-degree felony under Florida Statute 836.10, "written threat to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism."

St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway said this latest arrest serves as a reminder to all students that the police department takes these threats very seriously. He said his department will investigate any and all perceived threats to the safety and well being of students.
