Gibsonton Drive Corridor Ranked As Top 20 Most Dangerous Roads
Vision Zero has conducted traffic studies that shows Gibsonton Drive corridor is one of the most dangerous roads in Hillsborough County.
BLOOMINGDALE-RIVERVIEW, FL — The 2017 Vision Zero Action Plan identified Gibsonton Drive/Boyette Road in the Riverview area as one of the top 20 most dangerous roadways in Hillsborough County.
The organization is asking for input via a survey from area residents who drive on Gibsonton Drive daily so they can create safety measures for pedestrians and drivers.
According to traffic studies by Vision Zero, 34,500 to 45,000 vehicles pass through daily on this 2.5 mile stretch of road that includes Gibsonton Drive and Boyette Road.

Vision Zero has a goal of recommending short-term, immediate implementable countermeasures to reduce serious injuries and fatalities in high injury corridors.
Vision Zero said the crash history of Gibsonton Drive includes 1,139 crashes, and 80 percent of those occurred during daylight hours.

Rear end are the most common type of collisions in this area making up 51 percent of crashes.
The study showed peak hours for crashes are from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Crash history that involves pedestrians or bicyclists who have been hit by cars is 12, which counts for one percent of the location's collision history.
92 serious injuries have taken place in the corridor's history, with seven of those being fatalities.
The survey is open to Hillsborough drivers until Sept. 30.
