Hillsborough Students Honored For Inspiring Voters

Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer recognized three schools and four students at the May 15 School Board meeting.

TAMPA, FL -- Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer recognized three schools and four students at the May 15 School Board meeting for inspiring voters to head to the polls through their artwork.

More than 100 art entries were submitted for the VoteHillsborough Art Contest to encourage voter registration.

The artwork of the three finalists will be used in the Supervisor of Elections' marketing efforts, which will include hundreds of thousands of bag stuffers distributed at local McDonald's restaurants this summer. Casper's Co.. owner of McDonald's restaurants throughout Tampa Bay, provided prizes for the arts contest participants.

Winners are:

First Place: Marco Marquez, Blake High School

Second Place: Greta Gannon, Blake High School

Third Place: Edith Santos, Plant City High School

Honorable Mention: Lucian Cabbage, Stowers Elementary School.

The Supervisor of Elections Office held voter registration drives in high schools in the fall and spring. The schools with the most successful voter registration drives (based on percentage of senior class) are:

First Place: Bloomingdale High School (298 registrations, 53 percent of the senior class enrollment)

Second Place: Middleton High School (192 registrations, 46 percent of the senior class enrollment)

Third Place: King High School (172 registrations, 44 percent of the senior class enrollment).

The school board meeting begins at 3 p.m. at 901 East Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, Florida. Pictures will be available following the meeting.
