June is Courtesy Month as part of Powerful Words Character Development program.

Students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons
focusing on the character trait of courtesy. In addition to all of the physical skills that they'll be developing this month, students will discuss and practice the following concepts that will help them to understand and realize the value and benefits of becoming a courteous person, and the effect is has on them and everyone they encounter. Students will be focusing on the following topics both in and out of class:
· Courtesy defined: What does courtesy mean and how do we show it?
· Good manners, bad manners: Table, school and out in public.
· Powerful greetings: The Powerful GUEST System to meet and greet others.
· Courteous Words: Please, sorry, excuse me, thank you and how can I help?

“Courtesy is not just about being polite. People who show courtesy are thoughtful; they think before they act. What’s the difference? Courtesy is more than a gesture of manners or a series of polite words and actions. It encapsulates empathy, respect for others and kindness.” said Dr. Robyn Silverman, Sidekicks' child and adolescent expert, and creator of the Powerful Words Character Development system used at the facility.

"I’m personally psyched to get the chance to focus this entire month on courtesy," said Manny Cabrera III, chief instructor of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Centers, 16633 FishHawk Blvd. "As many folks know, we pride ourselves on building champions from the inside out...and being a courteous person is one of the many skills our members are proud to display. Many of our families tell us that lessons like this are a natural part of what makes our academy so unique and valuable. Our students learn how to become the kind of person that they themselves
would look up to. We’re thrilled to help our students and our community to thrive and succeed, and courtesy month is going to help us to do just that.
