Say Something is a proven program that educates young people and adults how to identify, assess and get help for someone in crisis before they harm themselves or others. The Call-to-Action Week was held between Feb. 25 through March 1.

“We are proud of all the students who participated in Say Something Week -- especially those who fully embraced being up standers in their community and committed to looking out for one another before a crisis can escalate to violence,” said Nicole Hockley, co-founder and managing director of Sandy Hook Promise and mother of Dylan who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

“In four out of five school shootings, the attacker told someone of his/her plans prior to the attack and 70 percent of people who complete suicide told someone of their intention or gave some type of warning," said Hockley. "We want to ensure that students have the tools they need to be able to spot these signs and know how to properly intervene and tell a trusted adult. That’s why Say Something is so important. Following this Call-to-Action Week, we received reports from schools detailing violence and threats that were averted, thanks to brave students who spoke up. Lives are being saved.”

This year’s Say Something Call-to-Action Week winners are: • District Grand Prize Award Winner: To date, more than 7.5 million people nationwide have been trained in Sandy Hook Promise’s proven Know the Signs programs that focus on prevention to help end the epidemic of gun violence by training youth and adults how to identify at-risk behavior and intervene to get help before a tragedy can occur. Through these no-cost programs, Sandy Hook Promise has averted multiple school shooting plots, as well as countless teen suicides and other acts of violence.
