A Man On Bike Dies After Car Hit Him In Riverview: FHP

The Florida Highway Patrol said it charged a 24-year-old Riverview driver with DUI manslaughter after he hit victim with vehicle.

BLOOMINGDALE-RIVERVIEW, FL — A 45-year-old Tampa man died on Saturday when he was hit by a car driven by a 24-year-old Riverview man who faces charges of DUI manslaughter, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators said Brian Laxton drove a sport utility vehicle southbound on U.S. Highway 41 near Riverview Drive at 2:58 a.m. when he hit the victim who was riding a bicycle.

The victim was thrown onto the sidewalk and the bike was dragged by the SUV to the intersection of Beach Avenue, authorities said.

Troopers arrested Laxton at Beach Avenue, officials said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Laxton is charged with DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

Due to Marsy's Law, the Florida Highway Patrol will not release the victim's name.
