Man Leaps Off Overpass Into River After 3-Car Crash In South County

SOUTH HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A man is in stable condition at a trauma center after leaping over the barrier of an overpass on Interstate 75 in South County and jumping into the Little Manatee River to avoid being struck by a car.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, three cars headed south on Interstate 75 near the Little Manatee River overpass crashed Thursday night.

One of the cars flipped over and the driver was thrown out. To avoid being struck by another car involved in the crash, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said the driver jumped off the overpass into the river, landing in the water.

The fire rescue called its jet ski team which rescued the man.

One other person involved in the crash was taken to a trauma center and is in stable condition as well.
