Meetings Scheduled On Boundary Changes For Wimauma High School

South Hillsborough County families will get a chance to have their say when the Hillsborough County Schools hosts two public meetings.

RUSKIN, FL -- South Hillsborough County families will get a chance to have their say when the Hillsborough County School District hosts two public meetings on proposed boundary changes for a new south county high school.

The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 26, both from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Shields Middle School, 15732 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin.

In August 2020, Hillsborough County Public Schools will open a new high school in the rapidly growing South Shore area, the first new high school in more than 10 years.

High School “TTT,” as it’s known for planning purposes, will offer relief to nearby East Bay High School and Lennard High School. The attendance boundaries of Lennard, East Bay, Newsome and Durant High Schools are proposed to be impacted to balance enrollment among the high schools.

Two meetings will be held for families to review and provide input to staff on the proposed boundary changes. Families may attend either meeting as the same information will be available at both. The meetings will be in an open house format where families can review the information and offer input throughout the evening.

All students in the areas that are eventually adopted will be reassigned from their current assigned high school to the new high school, with the exception of students who will be incoming seniors in 2020. The proposed boundary changes will be effective starting August 2020.

High School “TTT” will be located on the north side of County Road 672 (Balm Road), east of U.S. 301. The school is being designed to provide space for additional growth in the area.

The boundary proposal includes minor adjustments to the southern portions of the Newsome and Durant boundaries, which includes areas closer in proximity to the new High School “TTT” site. Click here to see the boundary proposal maps.

Proposed boundary changes are not final until they've been approved by the school board. That's expected to occur this fall.
