Principal Of New South County High School Named

SOUTH COUNTY, FL — At Tuesday’s School Board meeting, Dave Brown was named the principal of High School TTT, as it’s known for planning purposes, under construction in South Hillsborough County.

High School TTT is scheduled to open in fall 2020, the first new high school to open in more than ten years in Hillsborough County.

Brown is currently the principal of Strawberry Crest High School, the last new high school built in Hillsborough County in 2009. He was born and raised in Tampa and is a product of Hillsborough County Public Schools, graduating from Robinson High School in 1983. After high school, he attended the University of South Florida and graduated in 1987 with a bachelor of science in education. He earned his master's degree in educational leadership in 1997 from Nova Southeastern University.

Brown began his teaching career in 1991 as a social studies teacher at Bloomingdale High School. He has a long history of opening new high schools in the district, including being appointed the first assistant principal for curriculum at Freedom High School in 2002 as well as being named the inaugural principal at Strawberry Crest.

For the past five years, Strawberry Crest’s graduation rate has been more than 95 percent, and its I.B. Diploma Earning Rate has been more than 97 percent.

A rapidly growing area of the county, south county's high schools are near or over capacity.

Lennard High School has 24 portables on campus. The school is designed for 2,500 students and currently has an enrollment of more than 3,100. In addition, more than 900 students are projected to move into Lennard’s current school boundaries in the next few years.

Brown will begin working out of a portable on the school’s campus as the construction of the school continues. There, he will begin the process of hiring staff and providing information to future families.
