Riverview Apartment Complex Fire Displaces 24 Families

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials say a lightning strike caused a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Riverview.

RIVERVIEW, FL -- Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials say a lightning strike caused a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Riverview, displacing 75 to 100 people.

Around 7:41 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, crews responded to the Allegro Palm Apartments at 5501 Legacy Crescent Place off U.S. 301 north of Bloomingdale Avenue.

Witnesses said they heard a loud bang before the fire broke out, damaging 24 apartments in the complex.

Fire rescue crews were able to get the flames under control by 9 p.m.

The Red Cross is now on the scene assisting families with food, shelter and clothing.
