Riverview Man, 19, Dies Following U.S. 301 Accident
Kevin Byron Gomez lost control of his car on the wet roadway Wednesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

A 19-year-old Riverview man has died from his injuries following a Wednesday afternoon accident on U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
Kevin Byron Gomez was traveling northbound on 301 approaching Palmetto Street shortly after 1:30 p.m. when another vehicle changed lanes in front of his 1998 Volvo, according to a media release. Gomez attempted to apply his brakes to avoid the collision but lost control of the car on the wet roadway.
Gomez's car struck a sidewalk handrail, portions of which broke through the rear and front windows. Gomez was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition and later was pronounced dead, the release stated.

Gomez's passenger, an 18-year-old Riverview man, was uninjured. Both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the report.
This incident remains under investigation.
