Ruskin Man Charged With DUI Manslaughter Following I-75 Crash

A 31-year-old Ruskin man has been charged with DUI manslaughter following a crash that ​took the life of a 57-year-old woman.

RUSKIN, FL — A 31-year-old Ruskin man has been charged with DUI manslaughter following a crash that took the life of a 57-year-old woman.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 5:48 a.m. Friday, Jeremy Guerrero was driving a Toyota Corolla south on Interstate 75 just past County Road 672 when he came upon a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle. also headed south on Interstate 75.

To avoid passing the patrol car, troopers said Guerrero slowed quickly and switched to the outside lane. In the process, he lost control and struck the left side of a Dodge van driven by Maria DeLourdes Perez.

Both vehicles left the highway. The Corolla overturned and hit several trees. The van collided with a tree head on.

Perez was taken to Blake Memorial Hospital where she died.

Guerrero and his passenger sustained minor injuries.

Guerrero was charged with manslaughter while driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a revoked or suspended license involving a death.
