Sammy Sullivan Charities To Host Party, Golf Tournament

The legacy of a little boy lives on with an annual golf tournament that supports A Kid's Place in Brandon.

Sammy Sullivan was just 22 months old when he died. To keep his memory alive, his parents, Joe and Brenda Sullivan, founded Sammy Sullivan Charities, which, so far, has contributed $400,000 to A Kid's Place, a home for abused, neglected and abandoned children on Lithia-Pinecrest Road.

Continuing their fundraising efforts, the Sullivans are hosting the annual Sammy Sullivan Charities Golf Tournament Friday, Oct. 14, at Summerfield Golf Course, 13050 Summerfield Ave., Riverview.

Prior to the tournament, on Thursday, Oct. 13, there will be a kick-off party at O'Brien's Irish Pub, 701 W. Lumsden Rd., Brandon, starting at 6 p.m.

The party, sponsored by Aetna Insurance, will include hors d' oeuvres, a live auction beginning at 8 p.m., more than 25 raffle items ranging in value from $100 to $300, a chest of cheer and 50/50 tickets.

"I think what's important to Brenda and me is to create more awareness for A Kid's Place in Sammy's memory, and to make the O'Brien's function a memorable community event where all are welcome," said Joe Sullivan, who hopes to raise $100,000 a year for A Kid's Place.
