Arrest Made Following Discovery Of Human Remains In Gibsonton

The sheriff's office has arrested a 32-year-old man and charged him with murder in connection with skeletal remains found in Gibsonton.

GIBSONTON, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 32-year-old man and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with skeletal remains found off East Bay Road in Gibsonton in November.

At 2:07 p.m. Nov. 29, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a call about a body found in the 10000 block of East Bay Road in Gibsonton. When deputies arrived, they found the partially buried skeletal remains of a person.

Detectives said the degree of decay indicated the body had been buried on the property for quite some time. Based on the stature of the body, detectives say the body is that of an adult but the sheriff's office has not released the identity or the manner or death.

Following an investigation, detectives were able to build probable cause to charge Edgar Martinez with the murder of the person along with tampering with evidence on Monday, Dec. 9. He remains in custody at the Orient Road Jail.

Martinez was also charged with violating his pretrial release on previous charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
