Hand Grenade Found on Bell Shoals Road

The unusual discovery led to the road's closing Thursday morning.

An all-clear has been given after Hillsborough County deputies responded to a “suspicious article” call on Bell Shoals Road Thursday morning.

According to the agency, the article was found on the bridge at Bell Shoals and FishHawk Boulevard. The finding prompted the road’s closing in both directions at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church for a time.

The bomb squad was called out to investigate and determined the item to be “an inert hand grenade,” an email to media from the agency stated.
