Teaching the next generation to become SELF-RELIANT...Local Personal Development Center goes above and beyond in FishHawk!

“Self-reliance dictates that the most noble place to stand is on your own two feet.”   -- Dr. Robyn Silverman – Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center’s Child Development Expert

February 2014 is self-reliance Month as part of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center’s Powerful Words Character Development program! All students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on understanding the value and benefit of becoming a person who relies on his own judgments, powers or abilities to get things done.  In addition to all of the physical skills that they'll be working on this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts both in and out of class:

“Instilling a sense of self-reliance in our children is a bit of a balancing act.  We must know how much to help in order to build confidence and how much  (and when!) to let go to build independence. We want to give children enough freedom to encourage exploration and critical thinking without pushing them too fast such that they lose their footing. It takes faith, flexibility and a lot of trial and error!

Self-reliance is also dependent upon self-trust.  Self-reliant children must learn to trust their own powers, judgments, and abilities.  This can be challenging, of course, when self-reliance means that the road is tougher, slower and often filled with mistakes. Part of self-reliance is getting back up after falling, trying again after failing and charging forward after repeated setbacks.” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center child & adolescent expert, and creator of the Powerful Words Character Development system used at the facility.

Manny Cabrera III, Chief Instructor of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center says, "One of the most valuable lessons we can teach our students is for them to be able to rely on themselves.  It’s a pleasure seeing our community recognized as a place with Powerful Character, and seeing our students lead the way! As this community’s premier Powerful Personal Development Center, we take this responsibility very seriously. We’re thrilled to help our students and our community to thrive and succeed, and Self-reliance month is going to help us to do just that.”

Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center’s strong curriculum and the Powerful Words Character Development system provide our students with the opportunities to become UNSTOPPABLE in life. These lessons will remain with our students for life and we're honored to help them achieve the success that they deserve” says Cabrera.

Manny Cabrera III is the Owner and Chief Instructor of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center and has helped thousands of kids, teens, and adults to embrace a positive and healthy lifestyle.
