Teen Arrested in Freedom High School Bomb Plot
Police have charged 17-year-old Jared Cano.

A violent bomb plot planned for the first day of class at has been avoided, Tampa Police are saying.
Expelled student Jared Michael Cano, 17, "has been charged with threatening to throw, project, place or discharge a destructive device," according to Tampa Police.
His mother, Michelle Cano, is reportedly a math teacher at Riverview High School.

Police found a diary with a "minute-by-minute" details on the plot after receiving a tip late Tuesday morning. It targeted specific administrators and any students who happened to be nearby during the planned incident, which was set for the first day of school.
Cano faces additional charges of possession of bomb-making materials, cultivation of marijuana for growing the plants in his home and possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana, police said.

According to TBO.com, Jared was recently arrested on a burglary charge in which a firearm was stolen. Police told the publication they are "very, very familiar with him."
Cano's Facebook page, which shows pictures of malt liquor and him with a machete, says his college is the "University of Marijuana" and his activities include "smoking weed." His most recent post says "i jut did the dumbest thing ever!"
The Freedom High School community was alerted to the failed plot via an automated voice-mail message.
