Truck Loaded With Garbage Makes Stink On U.S. 41

A county tractor-trailer truck hauling a load of garbage created a stink when it collided with some power lines.

APOLLO BEACH, FL -- A county tractor-trailer truck hauling a load of garbage made a stink when it collided with some power lines and snapped off the power poles.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck, driven by Julio Cesar Matus, 56, of Riverviewwas traveling south on U.S. 41 approaching Big Bend Road at 8:09 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

Matus has forgotten to lower the cover on the trailer and, when the truck passed under several fiber optic lines, the trailer cover hit the lines. Unaware, Matus continued forward, pulling the power lines with the truck and snapping the power poles.

The truck dragged the power lines and poles a short distance and one of the poles collided with a Nissan Altima driven by Ryan C. Rosenbaum, 28, of Riverview who was traveling south on U.S. 41.

There were no injuries. Matus was cited for careless driving..
