Valrico Woman Wants Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' Law Changed

A Valrico woman whose husband was shot and killed during an argument about skateboarders says Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law needs to be changed.

Kanina James' husband, David, was killed in September 2010 in his Twin Lakes neighborhood, as 10 News WTSP reports. The accused shooter, Trevor Dooley, has claimed self-defense under the "Stand Your Ground" law, which has come under national scrutiny recently following the shooting death of Sanford teenager Trayvon Martin.

Arguments are being filed on a motion to dismiss the charges, including manslaughter, against Dooley, 10 News reports.

James told the news station she is against the "Stand Your Ground" law and that it is unjust.

"It's wrong," James told 10 News. "It's being overused for the wrong reasons. It's not right."

There is a hearing set for April in the James case.
