Viewfinder: Author's Museum
Students at Bell Shoals Baptist Academy displayed creativity through art, writings and performances.
Bell Shoals Baptist Academy’s annual Author’s Museum was held Friday, Feb. 17 at the school on 2102 Bell Shoals Rd., Brandon.
The theme for this year’s event was “A Light in the Darkness." Tammy Perkins, museum coordinator, said the event was intended to remind people that the Word of God calls them to be a light in a dark world. Students have been studying life-changing events such as the Holocaust, 9/11, child soldiers and refugees, among many others.
Attendees enjoyed art, writing and performances crafted by the students, from the Early Learning Center through eighth grade, as they used creativity to make powerful statements about their role as Christians in a world desperate for the Good News.

Participants were given an opportunity to be “A Light in the Darkness” by donating new and slightly used shoes for the homeless. Everyone who made a donation was given a card representing a child of the Holocaust. A quiet room was available for visitors to reflect or engage in a quiet time of prayer.
Visitors also had the opportunity to make a family tile, which will be displayed in the school’s future Writing Garden.

Another ministry the museum supported is the Beit Elazraki Children’s Home in Israel. When visitors shopped in the museum gift shop for fine jewelry, books and hand-crafted items, all proceeds went to the children's home.
