Who Is That Bass?

People Are Listening!

I was on a women's retreat at St. Stephen Catholic Church, and as we were singing a woman came close to the table I shared with 5 other women and demanded, "Who is that bass?

I sing the tenor part in our choir at church, so I was sure that she wasn't talking to me.  (I have since learned that a male tenor is equivalent to a female bass in barbershop.)
This woman stood by our table and as we sang the next song she looked at me and declared, "You.  You are the bass voice!"

For the rest of the retreat she kept her eye on me and eventually she explained that she was a member of the Southern Company Chorus, a women's barbershop group and part of Sweet Adeline International.

She insisted that I come to the next rehearsal and see what it was all about.  That was about two years ago, and during that time I have gained so much knowledge about acapella 4-part harmony.  Plus I have had the opportunity to wear a shiny costume, wear lots of makeup and compete on stage. I have lived the dream!
