Playoffs Down To Wire In High School Football Regional Finals

TAMPA BAY, FL — Florida's top high school football teams will vie for the state championship during the Regional Finals Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Class 8A contender Steinbrenner High School will play Osceola High at Osceola after defeating Riverview High in Sarasota 27-24.

In Class 7A play, Venice High will face rival Manatee High at Manatee after defeating Palm Beach Lakes last week 62-35 while Manatee High posted a narrow win over Mitchell High 31-28.

On the heels of their 20-9 defeat of the Bloomingdale Bulls, Class 7A Armwood Hawks will take on Lakeland High at Armwood. Lakeland defeated Tampa Bay Tech last week 37-30.

Palmetto High School will take on Port Charlotte after defeating the team in Class 6A play 23-17 last week.

Also in Class 6A, Gaither High School, which won over Clearwater High last week 27-20, will go up against Lake Minneola High at Gaither.

After winning against Chamberlain High School 30-7 last week, Jesuit High School will go for a win against Lake Wales High in the Class 5A finals at Lake Wales. Last week, Lake Wales defeated Atlantic 36-21.

Battling for the Class 4A win are Lakewood High and Tampa Catholic High at Lakewood. Last week, Lakewood shut out Clewiston 35-0 while Tampa Catholic defeated American Heritage 33-16.

In Class 3A, Clearwater Central Catholic will battle Bishop Verot for the win at Bishop Verot. Last week, Clearwater Central Catholic defeated Berkeley Prep 34-28.

Also in Class 3A, Lakeland Christian will take on The First Academy at Lakeland Christian after defeating Melbourne Central Catholic 28-21.

In Class 2A, Admiral Farragut will face Seffner Christian School at Strawberry Crest High School. Admiral Farragut won over Cambridge Christian last week 24-13 and Seffner Christian defeated Northside Christian 49-21.
